About Mary V. Cooper...
I’m a self-taught artist and have been drawing and creating some form of art since I could hold a crayon. I graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Psychology and Graphic Communications. I have worked in the Marketing/Public Relations/Advertising fields in healthcare. I founded Yorké Design Studio in 1993 as a freelance marketer and illustrator specializing in book design for self-publishers. I have been a substitute teacher for Pearland ISD for 17 years. It has been rumored that I will sneak an art lesson every now and again in class instead of math or reading (shhhh). I started teaching art from my home studio in Pearland five years ago, and my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner!
I have three very artistic children, all three in college (gasp!). We adopted a feisty little Yorkie from a rescue about nine years ago and she insisted that the art studio be named after her - and she got her way! Soon after, we adopted another sweet little Yorkie and she didn't mind that nothing was named after her. She's the chill one. They hang out in the studio at the end of class (Puppy time) to check out all the art projects and to say goodbye to the kids!
